Global Village

Global Village, now in its 32nd year, is pleased to welcome Janese Carstens as its new executive director. Through a local and regional search, Janese has been selected to carry Global Village’s mission forward.

Global Village, a nonprofit Fair Trade organization dedicated to the support of the world’s low-income artisans and farmers, operates a 100 percent Fair Trade retail store and provides educational activities that promote the values of Fair Trade, tolerance and cultural appreciation.

With 15 years of international education and cross-cultural experience, Janese anticipates new opportunities to share Fair Trade Principles through conversations, media and events. Having a storefront in downtown Billings on gives the community local access to make a global impact. Customers can see the faces, names and stories behind every product and know their purchases directly impact their global neighbors.

For example, when you purchase a silk and wool scarf, you are ensuring the new livelihood of a sex trafficking survivor. Kamal, a craftswoman with Conscious by Kali, now earns fair wages, receives skills training and has access to counseling as she moves forward in her new life.
