SOMETHINGchic for Every Occassion
Fashion is not stationary. It moves with fluidity, able to pair the proper attire with different environments and settings. Clothing is a reflection of one’s mood, personality, social status and ideals. Linda Brooks, owner and founder of SOMETHINGHchic, understands the importance of personal style and tailoring fashion to fit one’s surroundings.
“SOMETHINGchic represents the fashion-savvy woman who wants to look stunning and stylish throughout her day, no matter what she is doing,” Linda says. “She wants to look her best, exude confidence and feel empowered. She values uniqueness, quality, service and frugality.”
Linda has harbored an affinity for clothing for as long as she can remember. In fourth grade, she recalls folding and cuffing the bottom of her jeans, always striving to keep up with the latest fashions and trends. In 2016, she entered the Battle of the Plans contest, with the intention of pursuing her dream: to own and operate her own clothing store.
“I wanted to create a beautiful-looking store and offer fashion that would never give you the feeling of regret of overspending. … Having never taken a business class, the competition introduced me to resources and information I never knew existed. It was then that I learned how to write a business plan and SOMETHINGchic started taking shape. It took three years, lots of ups and downs, sacrifices and hard work, but it paid off, and I am now living my dream.”
Whether shopping for work, weekend or a special event, Linda offers “something” for everyone.
“The name SOMETHINGchic simply came from my love of shopping,” Linda explains. “When I’d go shopping, I was always looking for ‘something.’ Something to wear to a wedding, something for a gift—but mostly I just wanted something new. And the definition of ‘chic’ is elegantly and stylishly fashionable. Basically, I was always shopping for SOMETHINGchic.”
Linda styled four distinct looks for four different social settings. Explore her inspirations and ideas behind the selections.
Linda: Urban style is simply the combination of different cultures and lifestyles; it’s most often called “street style.” This look combines the Montana Western culture with sophisticated city style, along with elevated basics. The oversized trench coat, more often seen over a business-style outfit, paired with a basic tee and Levi’s denim shorts, creates a look with varying lengths. The pocket tee was French-tucked to give it a more stylish look and also allows for showing off the belt. The belt has a Western-style buckle and pairs nicely with the pointed toe suede boots. These boots have a more modern edge to them, and they create a more unique, urban look when paired with shorts and a trench coat.
All Row Lena Jacket, $98; Z Supply Sleek Jersey Pocket Tee, $34; Levi’s 501 High Rise Shorts, $69.50; Matisse Caty Boot, $195; Soko Capsule Collar Necklace, $88
Linda: Throw on and go. The white tee and jogger pants are so comfortable and casual, but when you add a denim jacket, it creates a more polished look. And of course, white sneaks just complete the comfy casual look.
Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend Trucker Jacket, $98; Z Supply Alda Dolman Tee, $48; Z Supply Marled Jogger Pant, $50; Sneakers Superga 2750 Classic White Sneaker, $65
Linda: This snakeskin dress is so chic. The satin material gives it a more elegant look and with the right accessories, it’s perfect for a date night. A black leather or faux leather jacket is a closet must-have. It’s the perfect statement piece to give you an instant chic, yet edgy look. I chose the black leather wedge espadrilles because they complement the black leather jacket, and the height instantly gives you a more elegant look. For the handbag, I chose a simple box bag with a gold chain. The chain can also clip off to turn it into a simple box clutch. The earrings are a unique spin on traditional hoop earrings and add the final glam touch.
Week& Tie Waist Midi Dress, $76; Jacket Jack by BB Dakota Vegan Leather Moto Jacket, $88; Seychelles Collectibles Wedge, $119; Most Wanted Box Crossbody, $90; Soko Paddle Hoop Earrings, $58
Linda: This look is effortless, comfortable and stylish—perfect for a day at the office. Paper bag waist pants are an easy way to instantly look slimmer. With the cinched-in waist creating volume at the top and bottom, you can easily tuck in a shirt without feeling too tight or exposed. The top is your classic button-down collared blouse. The nude colored slides were an easy choice because they are so versatile. The nude color is easy to style with multiple color palettes, and the short block heel makes them easy to wear throughout the workday.
